June 12, 2017 marks the one-year anniversary of the Pulse Orlando Massacre, when 49 lives were taken from us by a horrendous act of violence and homophobia. In remembrance of this day, many Orlando organizations have deemed today Orlando United Day – A Day of Love and Kindness. As stated on their website:

“Orlando United Day – a Day of Love and Kindness, is dedicated to honoring the memory of the 49 taken, supporting survivors and recognizing the compassion and love displayed by our community. Through Acts of Love and Kindness and events and activities, the day will benefit the greater Central Florida LGBTQ+ community and beyond. This historical day is being supported collaboratively by the City of Orlando, Orange County Government, Orlando United Alliance and Pulse owner Barbara Poma. For more information about the events taking place to remember the victims and honor the survivors, go to www.OrlandoUnitedDay.com.”

There are many ways for each of us to participate in today’s activities to honor the memory of the 49 Pulse victims. You can participate as individuals, organizations, within the city of Orlando, and beyond. Here are some of the ways Resilient Campus will participate in Orlando United Day be demonstrating #ActLoveGive:

  1. Act: Throughout the day, you will see posts from the small team at Resilient Campus as we demonstrate acts of love and kindness from this list of 49 Acts of Kindness, which are suggestions from several parents of the victims on what they would like to see
  2. Love: One simple gesture of visibility is changing our personal profile photo to display the “Act. Love. Give.” banner on our facebook account to encourage the Resilient Campus community to participate as well (We couldn’t figure out how to change the Resilient Campus profile photo unfortunately). For more ideas, visit this page https://oneorlandoalliance.org/love/
  3. Give: We will match donations to PFund Foundation’s Elevate Pride fundraising efforts up to $100 today. These fund support LGBTQ+ individuals through grants and scholarships. They use three elevated criteria to serve communities most in need: people of color and indigenous individuals; transgender and gender nonconforming individuals; and those in North Dakota and South Dakota. To donate, please visit this page. For additional ideas on giving, you can visit One Orlando Alliance.

If you would like to participate and would like additional ideas on how to #ActLoveGive today, please visit One Orlando Alliance’s website.

When posting to social media, use #ActLoveGive and tag @OneOrlandoAll when possible. If you want to tag @ResilientCampus as well, we would love to be witness to your acts of love and kindness.
